Catch the Beat Saxophone Sight Reading
Catch the Beat Saxophone Sight Reading is a progressive sight reading practice book for Saxophone with a focus on rhythm.
With exercises to clap, jump, sing and tap, more than 70 tunes to play, games, activities and an easy way to score, the plan has been to make the challenges of sight reading fun and energetic for young players rather than a chore. After all, sight reading leads us into a great musical adventure – our choice of new music, the chance to play with others in bands and orchestras, and above all to gain in confidence as we try something new.
This book is designed especially for the young beginner. We’ve built a simple self-assessment system into Catch the Beat which aims to build confidence and a sense of achievement and we hope that children will have fun working out their own score.
Every rhythm in the book has a tune written for it within an octave range and, although it’s not essential to start at the beginning and work through, you’ll discover that the tunes at the back of the book are more difficult than those at the beginning.
Catch the Beat sight reading book begins with the basics: The golden rules. The first few exercises only contain two note values, and four different pitches. It also includes a space to score yourself on each exercise.
As you progress, more pitches are added and different note values, as well as rests. Towards the end, you can expect quavers, dotted rhythms, and non-linear note changes.
There are even certificates to help you through the book!
