A Musical History Book 1
21 fantastic pieces focusing on the work of women composers arranged for two players of intermediate to advanced standard.
A Musical History Book 1: Duets comprises 21 fantastic pieces arranged for two players of intermediate to advanced standard, starting with the earliest and focusing exclusively on the work of women composers through the ages. Several are one page in length, most are two pages and a few are longer. The melody is shared between the parts so both players get to play the tune!
Social convention, prejudice, limited educational opportunities and family responsibilities meant that many artistically creative women were discouraged from following a career or were ostracised for doing so. Society deemed women incapable of composing serious music, often their compositions were not performed outside their family, and manuscripts were considered unworthy of publication. Even so, women continued to create. Expect gorgeous music in a wide variety of styles!
